CAMP Inc. is a citizen-based advocacy group with hundreds of supporters in Melville, Alton and Orangeville. We were formed in July 2013 to oppose the Olympia Sand and Gravel application and to protect our natural and built environments in the face of this proposed large-scale aggregate mining near Melville and Orangeville.
The name, Citizens Against the Melville Pit (CAMP) was selected to clearly identify who we are and what we are up against as we fight to protect the character of our community. CAMP and our supporters are committed to do the following:
- Uncover the relevant facts, issues, and risks associated with the Olympia Sand and Gravel application and any other proposal for industrial development that could have an adverse impact on the human and natural ecology of our rural community
- Provide timely and accurate information regarding the above, to all who are potentially impacted within our community and beyond
- Encourage all levels of government to adopt sound land-use planning policies which protect the unique environmental importance of the upper portion of the Credit Valley Watershed to those living within it as well as those living downstream
CAMP is officially incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation which gives the organization a separate legal identity and enables it to appear on behalf of the community in legal proceedings.
